The Head – Procurement will be responsible for leading the end-to-end procurement function for EHV/HV Substations (up to 765 kV), AIS/GIS Switchyards, Transmission Infrastructure, and associated EPC projects. The role requires developing procurement strategies, building strong OEM relationships, ensuring timely material availability, driving cost optimization, and leading a high-performing procurement team.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end procurement for EHV/HV Substation projects (AIS/GIS) up to 765 kV.
- Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with project schedules and business objectives.
- Drive strategic sourcing to optimize cost, quality, delivery, and working capital.
- Build and strengthen strategic relationships with OEMs and key suppliers.
- Lead supplier identification, qualification, onboarding, and performance evaluation.
- Develop alternate sourcing strategies to reduce procurement risks and improve supply continuity.
- Lead techno-commercial evaluations, RFQs, negotiations, contract finalization, and purchase order execution.
- Drive value engineering and cost optimization initiatives across major procurement categories.
- Negotiate favorable commercial terms, payment conditions, warranties, and delivery schedules.
- Work closely with Engineering, Projects, Planning, Commercial, Finance, and Quality teams to ensure timely procurement aligned with project milestones.
- Ensure material availability without impacting project execution timelines.
- Resolve procurement-related issues affecting project delivery.
- Strengthen contract management, claims management, change orders, and procurement governance.
- Identify procurement risks and implement mitigation strategies.
- Optimize inventory, logistics, warehouse coordination, and supplier performance.
- Improve procurement systems, MIS, ERP utilization, and digital procurement processes.
- Establish procurement KPIs, dashboards, and reporting mechanisms.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, contractual obligations, and statutory requirements.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing procurement team.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and commercial excellence.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Extensive experience in procurement for Power System EPC projects.
- Strong exposure to AIS/GIS Substations up to 765 kV, Switchyards, Transformers, GIS/AIS Equipment, Protection & Control Systems, Cables, Switchgear, Busbars, Structures, and Balance of Plant materials.
- Strong commercial acumen with exceptional negotiation and contract management skills.
- Proven experience in handling large EPC procurement budgets and multiple projects simultaneously.
- Deep understanding of EPC project execution, supply chain management, vendor development, and procurement risk management.
- Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and cross-functional coordination skills.
- Hands-on experience with ERP/SAP and procurement MIS systems.
