Structural Steel Estimator

About the Role

We build AI-powered takeoff software for industrial contractors. Our first product handles piping and P&ID takeoff. Structural steel is next, starting with pipe racks and expanding into platforms, access structures, and equipment foundations. We're hiring a structural steel estimator to help us build it right.

What you'd be doing

  • You'll estimate real structural steel scope, validate AI-generated quantities against your own manual takeoffs, and tell our engineering team where the software misses.
  • You'll work from actual bid packages, GA drawings, steel details, and connection schedules, not hypotheticals.
  • You'll also join customer demos and pilot projects, walking contractors through our output and translating between what the software produces and what an estimator needs to price a job.

What we're looking for

  • 3+ years estimating structural steel for industrial projects (petrochemical, refinery, power, or heavy industrial preferred)
  • Comfortable reading general arrangement drawings, steel framing plans, connection details, and anchor bolt layouts
  • Experience with quantity takeoff for wide flange, HSS, plate, grating, handrail, and miscellaneous metals
  • Familiar with how steel tonnage gets priced: fabrication rates, erection labor, bolting vs. welding differences, coatings
  • Willingness to sit with software engineers and explain your process, your shortcuts, and where your judgment fills gaps that drawings don't cover

Nice to have

  • Experience estimating pipe rack structures specifically (our first structural module starts there)
  • Familiarity with Bluebeam, PlanSwift, or similar digital takeoff tools
  • Background in both piping and structural estimation (common at mid-market industrial contractors where one estimator handles both)
  • AISC, ASPE, or equivalent certification

What we offer

  • Early-stage equity opportunity
  • A product team that builds from estimator input, not assumptions
  • The chance to define how AI handles structural steel takeoff before anyone else does
